The BBC this morning says the Iranian government has again rejected calls for it to stop enriching uranium, but Tehran is willing to continue talking.
In other words, "we're close to having our bombs, just let us stall a little longer."
This assumes the Iranians are making their bombs from scratch. If they are starting with old Russian bomb cores that only need slight enrichment, they could already have lots of bombs.
In any case, it seems likely the Israelis will hit them. The Israelis reportedly own six air refueling tankers, so they can do it. Or, Bush could let the Israelis refuel in Iraq.
Rumor says it will happen between the US elections and the presidential inauguration.
Last year, rumor also said Admiral William Fallon opposed war with Iran, and his departure would signal that the Bush gang was clearing the decks for war with Iran.
Fallon was "asked to resign" in March.
I imagine a strike on Iran would instantly add $20 to the price of oil. Then if the Iranians retaliate with some kind of strike in the Persian Gulf, another $20 very quickly.
So, the Bush gang can't do it before the elections. The jump in gasoline prices would enrage the voters.
My forecast: quiet until the elections, then maybe not so quiet.
